10 Ways to Anger a 10 Year Old!

I am somewhat an expert in this field now and in fact, can effectively anger my 10 year old in my sleep, standing on my head and with my eyes closed! It has become second nature to me, so much so that half the time, I don’t even know that I’m doing it, I’m that good! I therefore feel I should share my expertise, so that other 10 year olds may be angered by their parents, without the need for formal training.

Buzymum - 10 Ways to Anger a 10 Year Old!

  1. Ask them to tidy their room.

This will undoubtedly cause stomping up the stairs and door slamming because ‘it’s my room, I like it like this’ and ‘what’s the point in making the bed, I’ll mess it up again later when I go to bed anyway’

  1. Remind them that they have siblings.

She desperately wants to be an only child and the mere mention of her little bro and sis, anger her! They are, of course the ‘favourites’ and get away with everything and basically, what were we thinking, to have more babies after she was born?

  1. Remind them to do their homework, or don’t.

This is a double-edged sword. Even though they know they will get into trouble for not doing said homework, your reminder will anger them and it will be your fault that they didn’t do it earlier. If you don’t remind them, it will be your fault that they didn’t do it. Anger either way.

  1. Despite the fact that everyone else has got one (really?!!), they are not getting the latest iPhone for their birthday.

Being the only parent in their whole year group refusing to buy the latest iPhone for their child will make you public enemy number one! Their convincing pleading and reasoning to get said phone can soon be quashed by a quick QA on the ‘parents Facebook group’ where you can ascertain that, in fact, there is only one child out of around 60 who has a £600+ phone (parents obviously have more money than sense!) and the knowledge that ‘parents talk to each other’ will sufficiently anger your 10 year old!

  1. Remind them to tidy their room.

They went up-stairs, they picked up a sock, what more do you want? Blood?

Buzymum - K when she's angry!

  1. Wake them up in the morning

You can’t fail with this one. Even the most gentle nudging and soft voice will unleash a monster!! This is a recent occurrence in our house so if it doesn’t yet work for you, give it a few months and I’m sure the hormones will kick in sufficiently to enable this method of angering!!

  1. Suggest an early night.

Despite not being able to get out of bed that morning, the idea that extra sleep may help, is the talk of the devil. Mainly due to the fact that going to bed at the same time or (shock horror) before younger siblings is, quite frankly, crazy talk!

  1. Remind them to tidy their room………again.

Do this if you dare. The resulting behavior may include severe eye rolling, looks that actually kill and accusations of life ruining because ‘all you ever want me to do is tidy my room’.

  1. Put the wrong flavor crisps in their lunch box.

As a parent of three children, I make it a priority to remember every little like and dislike even though they change on a daily basis (did you hear the sarcasm?). I therefore purposely place items in my 10 year olds lunch box that I know she dislikes for the sheer hell of it, knowing that it will anger her beyond belief. (Note to self- this week she doesn’t like cheese and onion crisps- only buy cheese and onion crisps.)

  1. Place a box on the seat in the car or at the table, where they usually sit.

Of course a 10 year old couldn’t possibly sit on a different seat, move the box or ask politely about the box. They just get angry because the whole world is against them and our sole reason for existence, as parents, is to think of little things like this to provoke anger.

NB These tips may also be applied to feisty 8 year olds with anger issues and any hormonal pre-teen!!

I hope this helps any parent desperately trying to anger their hormonal 10 year old! Please like and share with anyone you feel would benefit from this free tutorial and if you have any further suggestions, I would love to hear them!!

  1. Sonia, you have done it again! Another brilliantly writen blog. While I feel your pain, I found this blog really really funny! Not least because I have a friend who consistantly moans about the EXACT same issues that you raised. The week before christmas, she told her daughter to tidy her foom, for the second time, daughter went to bathroom, took her mothers lippy and wrote…. ” F off”( in it’s entirety) on her own bedroom door! I dread to think what daughter would have done if mother had dared to go back for the 3rd time!

    Brilliant blog Sonia. Xx

      1. 100%! If you can’t rant amongst understanding friends and blog admirers, who can you rant at? Good to let it out! But, as an actress and comedy writer, I LOVE sarcasm so much, so your blog made me chuckle quite alot! Xxx

  2. HA! I wrote one similar, except it was an 8 year old I angered. He was so mad at me that he was mad at his mother too and she wasn’t even involved 🙂 I love the putting stuff in your daughters lunch simply because she doesn’t like it trick. I’m going to have to try that one!

  3. Oh I love this post, I have an 11 year and an 8 year old and the 11 year old is furious at me constantly!! In his eyes he should have the latest phone, tablet or shoes around, he should be able to have all forms of social media and be allowed to cycle anywhere he wants to without any supervision at all. Where has my little boy gone?????

    1. I know! And the most frustrating thing is that this just started, like turning on a switch! No build-up or gradual change, just sudden anger! Thanks for reading xx

  5. I have an 18 month old and think a couple of these apply. Isn’t there something said about toddlers mirroring the behaviour of teens… I know my mum can relate to this also looking after 3 teens. Good luck! #DreamTeam

  8. this is hilarious!!! i can completely imagine my nieces and nephews doing this. My niece actually “lost” her battery to her cheap phone that her mum got her so the bigger kids wont nick her stuff so now after begging her dad she now has a second hand iphone 5 which i think is insane. #sharingthebloglove

  9. This is a little glimpse into my future! Friends with older children tell me that its harder with older children and I just smile at them and think really!!! But I know that I was like this when I was a child. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove x
