These top tips to kickstart your fitness journey are all simple and easy to implement. A few small changes to the way you approach a new regime can be the difference between success and failure. I’m all about ‘slow & steady’ rather than ‘all or nothing’, it’s far more effective and likely to cause a complete lifestyle change.
We have found ourselves in very strange times this year. You may have had plans to travel, do things, see people and explore that had to be cancelled because of the global pandemic caused by Covid-19. All that planned activity turned into working from home, living in loungewear and enjoying all of that comfort food. As life starts to get back to ‘normal’, you may want to start thinking about a change in lifestyle to reinvigorate a past love of exercise or find a new one! With that in mind, now is the time to start that new regime! Here are some top tips to help you kickstart your fitness journey.
When it comes to a fitness journey, it’s important to remember this is your personal journey. It needs to be measurable and appropriate for you, your goals and your lifestyle. Your friends may have plans to do something similar but mirroring their choices may not be good for you. While having a motivational partner with similar goals can be a great way to help each other, make sure it is a personal journey and you are clear on your personal goals.
Have the right gear to feel good
Sometimes, just making sure you dress the part and feel protected can help you to feel more encouraged to exercise. Whether that’s leggings and tops from places such as Curves N Combatboots or the right trainers for running or the gym. It’s important that you still feel good and your activewear can help you do that.
Make sure the change is the whole package
It is all well and good having goals to increase fitness or to achieve certain things, but you also need to consider the whole package. Health is not only about fitness, nutrition, sleep and wellbeing also play an important role. Cutting down on sugar, drinking more water and taking time to relax and reflect on your day, all contribute to a healthier you. Make sure you look at changes across your life- the whole package.
Set realistic goals
It is also important for you to set yourself realistic goals. If your focus is purely on the end goal, it can seem unachievable when things are tough. Having the big goal but setting smaller, realistic targets along the way can help you measure success and keep you motivated to achieve that end goal. Step by step and little by little is definitely the way to go!
Don’t be afraid to dream big
On the subject of the main goal, don’t be afraid to dream big. Running a marathon may seem like a pipe dream now but with a series or short term goals, it’s possible. Every journey starts with a single step. Make 2020 about a new beginning. Dream big.
I hope these top tips help motivate you to kickstart your fitness journey!
